Local authority legal team shortlisted in two categories for LawWorks pro bono awards
The London Borough of Barking & Dagenham is in the running for two awards in the LawWorks Pro Bono Awards 2020.
- Details
The council has been shortlisted for Best Contribution by an In-house Team or an In-house Solicitor.
It is also in the running for Most Effective Pro Bono Partnership, with DV FLAG East which provides providing free, independent and confidential advice to residents who are experiencing or are affected by domestic violence.
The legal team works jointly with Citizens Advice on delivery of the scheme, which was said at its launch in June 2019 to be the first of its kind in the country
The service is provided by accredited and experienced family solicitor firms and officers from the council’s legal practice.
The LawWorks Pro Bono Awards recognise and celebrate achievement in legal pro bono work, undertaken by organisations and individuals, and the commitment of the legal sector in enabling access to justice.
The annual awards, which are sponsored by Lexis Nexis, will be livestreamed at 6 pm this evening (2 December 2020).
