Civil law barrister Keith Chipato joins Field Court Chambers as tenant
Housing and property barrister Keith Chipato has joined Field Court Chambers as a tenant.
- Details
The Chambers said Chipato has “extensive experience” of representing tenants and landlords across a wide range of housing and property matters including possession proceedings, leases, unlawful evictions, disrepair and HMOs.
His practice is focused on housing, property, landlord and tenant (residential and commercial) and insolvency (personal and corporate).
Before becoming a barrister, Chipato worked at the Financial Ombudsman Service.
In one notable case, Chipato represented the mortgagor in a repossession claim and succeeded in having the possession claim dismissed after proving that the secured loan agreement was not an exempt agreement and unenforceable under s.26(1) of the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000.
In another, Chipato represented the landlord in successfully varying an injunction against the landlord not to evict the tenant. The court held that an injunction did not stop the landlord in pursuing possession proceedings against the tenant.
