Five new judges appointed to the High Court
Five new High Court judges have been appointed following a combination of elevations to the Court of Appeal and retirements.

The appointments are:
- Tribunal judge Peter Lane, who will be assigned to the Queen’s Bench Division. His appointment is consequential to the retirement of Sir Michael Burton, who will continue in his role as President of the Investigatory Powers Tribunal.
- Upper Tribunal Judge Gwynneth Knowles QC, who will be assigned to the Family Division. Her appointment is consequential to the elevation of Sir Peter Jackson to the Court of Appeal.
- 11KBW’s Akhlaq Choudhury QC, who will be assigned to the Queen’s Bench Division. His appointment is consequential to the elevation of Sir Gary Hickinbottom to the Court of Appeal.
- His Honour Judge Julian Goose QC, who will be assigned to the Queen’s Bench Division. His appointment is consequential to the retirement of Dame Laura Cox.
- Essex Court Chambers’ Simon Bryan QC, who will be assigned to the Queen’s Bench Division. His appointment is consequential to the retirement of Sir Alan Wilkie.
The new judges will take up their position on 2 October.
