NSPCC launches online safeguarding tool for school
The NSPCC has launched an online self assessment and development resource for schools to help them improve children’s safety and well-being.
Improving Safeguarding in Schools (ISIS) includes a step-by-step online guide to help schools audit how they are meeting safeguarding standards, and development tools such as best practice examples and action plans.
The standards have been cross-referenced with the Ofsted self-evaluation form and the National Healthy Schools framework.
ISIS covers six quality areas:
- Promoting emotional health and well-being
- Pupil behaviour
- Child protection
- Safety and security
- Governance, and
- Staff.
The NSPCC said ISIS would build the skills and confidence of staff and governors in safeguarding children.
Jo Scherer-Thompson, head of the charity’s new safeguarding in education service, said: “The NSPCC views the education sector as key to keeping children safe. With around eight million children attending more than 25,000 schools in England, teachers and other education professionals have a major role to play.”
The new safeguarding service will be launched later this year.
