Bournemouth BC transfers range of facilities to new charitable company
Bournemouth Borough Council has this month transferred the management and operation of a number of facilities – including the Bournemouth International Centre – to a new charitable company, limited by guarantee.
Apart from the BIC, the facilities transferred to BH Live are:
- The Pavilion Theatre
- The Littledown Centre
- Pelhams Park Leisure Centre
- Stokewood Leisure Centre
- The Sir David English Sports Centre
- Kinson Swimming Pool.
BH Live will be run by an independent board of 11 trustees.
Nick Billington, chairman of BH Live, said: “BH Live has a set of highly focussed objectives to help improve the health and wellbeing of Bournemouth residents and visitors, by encouraging more participation in leisure activities and promoting more access to cultural events. It will also continue to run world class conferences and contribute to the local economy by attracting visitors and delegates to the town.”
In January this year, Councillor Stephen MacLoughlin, leader of Bournemouth Borough Council, said: “All the venues have been successful under Council control, but with the squeeze on public finances, the new organisation will be in a better position to develop them so that they continue to offer what people want.”
The council also said at the time that the trust will deliver significant financial benefits to the local authority through business rate relief and VAT exemptions.
