Tributes paid to leading Welsh local government, regulatory and licensing lawyer
- Details
Tributes have been paid to David Daycock, a leading local government, regulatory and licensing lawyer in Wales, who has passed away after a short illness.
Daycock was called to the Bar in 1987, before transferring to become a solicitor in 1992.
He joined Swansea Council, later becoming its Head of Legal Services and Monitoring Officer.
He subsequently worked part time as a clerk to Mid and West Wales Fire Authority and as a consultant to law firms.
He joined Iscoed Chambers in 2011 while maintaining his role with the fire authority.
LLG said: “We are all shocked and extremely saddened to hear of the incredibly unbelievable news of the passing of David.
“Dave was a larger-than-life character within LLG - a friend to so many of us. His dedication to the sector was evident in everything he did. He will be greatly missed in every way especially at conferences where he lit up the room and inspired so many.
“Our heartfelt condolences to his family and the local government community.”
The Institute of Licensing meanwhile said it was “great sadness and a feeling of disbelief” that it announced his passing away.
It added: “Dave was known to many members of the Institute, having been involved since the beginning of the original Local Government Licensing Forum in 1996. As the first Chair of the Welsh Region, he played a key role in encouraging local government officers from a range of professions to get involved during the Forum’s early days. He continued to serve as Chair for many years and remained a great friend to the Institute, often contributing as a speaker and supporter at events throughout his career.
“Our thoughts are with Lynn, Angharad, Bethan and Steffan, his loving wife and children.”
